DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Mavericks are one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA but they won't be bringing in DeMarcus Cousins to help alleviate the problem.
"1. Mavs have for years had on-and-off interest in DeMarcus Cousins. 2. Mavs are 29th in the NBA in rebounding and Cousins is available, having been paid and waived by Houston. 3. HOWEVER, I'm told a Cousins-Mavs match WILL NOT happen," Brad Townsend of the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday morning.
Sham's Charania of The Athletic reports that Cousins will be waived in order for the Rockets to give more minutes to Christian Wood, who has shined in his first season in Houston.
Cousins had been relegated to a reserve role with Houston, averaging 9.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in 25 appearances.
"They want a big to pair with him," one league source said, via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. "Obviously with physicality, rebounding, toughness."
In that same article, Fischer says the Mavs are interested in Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond, but are unwilling to part with Porzingis under that trade scenario.
