HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Zack Greinke left his start against the New York Yankees on Saturday night after four innings due to right shoulder soreness, Astros manager Dusty Baker said.
"He told me the other day he's feeling a little soreness, but he was fine to pitch," Baker said after the Astros 1-0 loss. "We had an eye on him the whole time and we thought (four innings) was enough, especially with the break here, he'll get a few extra days."
Greinke isn't scheduled to start again until July 19 when the Astros host the Cleveland Indians, but he isn't concerned that his shoulder will force him to miss any time.
"It's always possible, but it's not the worst thing that I've dealt with."
The Yankees only run against Greinke came on Aaron Judge's third inning home run. He allowed two other hits and walked a batter, while striking out three. He admitted his shoulder has been an issue, but it wasn't much of a problem on Saturday.
"It felt pretty good today," Greinke said. "It's bothered me for a little over a month. Hoping to have a shorter start this time and the extra days from the All-Star break and be rested for the second half is the goal."
With Cristian Javier rested in the Astros bullpen, Greinke said Saturday's start was always going to be a little shorter than normal, but his shoulder might've sped up his exit.
Greinke entered Saturday's start having thrown 115.1 innings this season, third most in baseball and the most in the American League.
