HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) - Rockets CEO Tad Brown announced Friday he will transition from his role with team when the season ends.
"I've been talking to Tillman (Fertitta) for a while about a succession plan, and what I think would be in the best interest for me and my family and for the organization at a time that I think is really important," Brown said. "It's time to move on, and it's time to take on other adventures."
Brown joined the team in 2002 as Vice President of Corporate Development and was promoted to CEO in October 2006. He said he does not know what he will do next but felt now was the best time to step away.
"I think I've always had a pretty good ability to feel the room and understand what would be in our best interests and in the organization's best interests as we go forward," he said. "I feel really good about where we are, I feel good about the team that's in place."
The Rockets have not announced Brown's successor but said an announcement would be made soon.
“On behalf of the entire Rockets organization and my family, I want to thank Tad for his stellar and tireless service to the Houston Rockets franchise,” Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta said in a statement. “I could not have asked for a better leader to work with since becoming owner."
