(SportsRadio 610) - Texans running back Rex Burkhead suffered a hip injury in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks and his game status is day-to-day, head coach David Culley said Monday.
Burkhead was seen at the NRG Stadium facility Monday morning and Culley said the veteran running back tried to downplay the severity of his injury.
"He always says he's alright, but he's not," Culley said. "But we'll see, day to day with him."
Burkhead had 11 carries for 40 yards, including a 10-yard run against Seattle. The offense struggled without him, down to just one running back in newcomer Royce Freeman, who gained just 15 yards on his 11 carries.
The Texans also missed Burkhead in pass protection and their inability to run the ball made the pass game less effective, players and coaches said after the game.
If Burkhead is unable to play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Texans could look elsewhere for help at running back along with Freeman. They do have Darius Jackson on the practice squad and could choose to elevate him to the active roster.
Scottie Phillips is still on the injured reserve with a leg injury and David Johnson tested positive for COVID-19 last Friday.
