COLLEGE STATION (Talk1370.com) -- Jimbo Fisher is set to remain at the helm of Texas A&M's football program for another decade, with a new contract extension approved Wednesday.

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents voted Wednesday to extend Fisher's contract for an additional four years, through the end of 2031.

The new 10-year contract includes an annual salary of $9 million beginning on Jan. 1, 2022, with a $150,000 increase in 2023 and a $100,000 increase each year following.

According to USA Today, the move will make Fisher the second-highest paid coach in college football, behind Alabama's Nick Saban, who recently received a raise and contract extension of his own.

“Coach Fisher continues to demonstrate he is building our program for long-term success and he is a perfect fit for Texas A&M," said athletic director Ross Bjork in a statement. "Providing the appropriate amount of stability and continuity during this important time is critical as we support our football program at the highest level."

"As one of only five active head coaches to win a national championship," Bjork continued, "Coach Fisher knows what it takes to lead a comprehensive program on and off the field and develop our young men beyond football. There is momentum in all phases of our program and we are excited about what lies ahead for Aggie Football. We appreciate Coach Fisher’s commitment to Texas A&M.”

Fisher is entering his fourth season as the Aggies' head coach, with a 26-10 record in College Station and a 109-33 overall record in 11 seasons as a head coach. The Aggies finished the 2020 season ranked fourth in the Associated Press Top 25, the program's highest ranking since winning a national title in 1939.

“The investment Texas A&M University is making in our program, coaching staff, and facilities speaks to the vision of our leadership and their commitment to long-term success,” said Fisher. “I am thankful for the unwavering support of the administration, the faculty and staff, our 12th Man Foundation donors, the Aggie Network, and the 12th Man - the largest and loudest student section in the country. It is an honor to be the Head Football Coach at Texas A&M, and although I am proud of the strides we’ve made, we ain’t done yet!”
