AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Westlake Chaparrals head coach Todd Dodge says he'll retire at the end of the 2021 Texas high school football season.

Dodge has led six teams to state titles over more than 20 years as a head coach in the high school ranks, including four 5A titles with Southlake Carroll in the 2000s and back-to-back 6A titles with the Chaps in 2019 and 2020.

"There comes a season of life where it’s time to go to that next journey. I feel great," said Dodge at a press conference Thursday morning. "I told our players earlier that I’m about as motivated as I’ve ever been in 36 years of coaching for a group of men, coaches and players, to jump into this beautiful grind called Texas high school football."

Dodge came to Westlake in 2014. In his seven seasons at Carroll from 2000-2006, he achieved a 98-11 record. He's won 88 games in seven seasons at Westlake, looking to eclipse that record in his final season with the Chaps.

Prior to coaching, Dodge played quarterback for the University of Texas Longhorns, winning the starting job in 1983.

Westlake will open its 2021 campaign on the road at Temple on August 27.
