AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Westlake kept its hopes for another state title alive Friday night, turning what head coach Tony Salazar called a "sloppy" first half into a resounding 46-17 bi-district win over Vista Ridge in the 2024 UIL 6A Division I playoffs.

The Chaps held an 18-10 lead at halftime, but came out and rolled off 21 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Westlake quarterback Rees Wise finished the night with 260 yards passing, with two touchdown passes to Brody Wilhelm for 43 and 70 yards and another score on the ground. Grady Bartlett and Elijah Clark added to the scoring on the ground as well.

Vista Ridge briefly led in the first quarter on an 8-yard score from JD Jackson, but the Chaps quickly regained the lead.

Westlake will face San Antonio Brennan in the second round - and just nearby at Austin ISD's Burger Center in southwest Austin next Friday, Nov. 22. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.
