ARLINGTON, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- A big stage means a team needs to make big plays. And the Panthers of North Crowley brought plenty of them Saturday night, on their way to a state championship.

The Westlake Chaparrals (14-2) saw their 2024 season come to an end without winning that championship at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, falling 50-21 as North Crowley locked up an undefeated season with the 6A Division I title.

The Panthers scored early, often, and virtually at will - racking up 640 yards of offense including 341 on the ground. Quarterback Chris Jimerson was 14 of 23 passing for 299 yards and four touchdowns, including a 75-yard pass on the first play of the game. He also contributed on the ground, with a rushing touchdown and 63 yards on seven carries.

Quentin Gibson hauled in seven catches for 181 yards and three touchdowns.

For the Chaps, Grady Bartlett scored on a 2-yard run early to tie the game at 7 apiece, but North Crowley ripped off 28 unanswered to go up 35-7 before Westlake could put points on the board. Quarterback Rees Wise ended the night with 103 yards rushing on 17 carries and the Chaps' other two touchdowns. Through the air, he was 10 for 23 passing for 155 yards.

It's the first state title since 2003 for North Crowley and just the second in school history. The Panthers knocked off perennial state powers including Odessa Permian, Allen, and Duncanville on their way through the playoffs.
