AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Westlake delivered another strong performance on defense Friday night to lock up a 24-17 win over district rival Lake Travis, punching a ticket to next week's state semifinal in Class 6A Division I.

The Chaps (13-1) racked up three interceptions on Cavaliers quarterback Chaston Ditta, plus a recovered fumble - the four turnovers equaling the total from October's district matchup between the two teams.

"Heck of a team on both sides of the field tonight," head coach Tony Salazar said postgame. "The kids fought and fought and fought, and weren't going to take no for an answer."

Lake Travis (12-2) took an early 7-0 lead on its first offensive possession, but then the Chaps scored 17 unanswered to go into halftime with a 17-7 lead. The Cavaliers tied the game midway through the third quarter, but Westlake pulled ahead for good with a 16-yard pass from Rees Wise to Brandon Clark.

Westlake will play either Humble Atascocita or Galena Park North Shore in the semifinals next week. That game is slated for Saturday afternoon, Dec. 14, at Katy's Legacy Stadium. The winner will play for a state championship the following week at Arlington's AT&T Stadium.
