Cease, 25, went 13-7 with a 3.91 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 32 starts in the regular season. He made two starts against the Astros in the regular season, taking the loss in each outing. He had a 9.00 ERA in those two starts, going a combined nine innings and allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out 14.

Left-hander Carlos Rodon was also under consideration to start Game 3 for the White Sox, though he has been dealing with shoulder soreness late in the season, which has caused his velocity to dip significantly.

Should they win Sunday, the White Sox “have some optimism” that Rodon can pitch in Game 4 on Monday, manager Tony La Russa told reporters Saturday afternoon.

The Astros will start right-hander Luis Garcia (11-8, 3.30 ERA, 1.17 WHIP) in Game 3.
