DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Once upon a time, the Dallas Cowboys hosted a Super Bowl at their still fairly new, AT&T Stadium.
Unfortunately for North Texas and the NFL, Icemageddon destroyed the entire week of festivities and left a black eye on North Texas as a host. Not to mention the seating fiasco that led to several lawsuits.
The Cowboys have made it known in the years since that they'd like another opportunity to host a Super Bowl, but nothing has ever materialized on that front.
As it stands now, the next four Super Bowl locations are all pretty much set in stone.
2022 - SoFi Stadium - Inglewood, California
2023 - State Farm Stadium - Glendale, Arizona
2024 - Was New Orleans but now undetermined (Las Vegas seen as the favorite)
2025 - Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana
According to Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys and the city of Arlington have once again expressed an interest in hosting the Super Bowl.
“(The Cowboys) have asked us (Arlington) if we want to go back after the Super Bowl and absolutely we do. We stand ready to mobilize for it,” Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams said in a phone interview. “It’s one of the most frequent questions I get is when are we going to get another Super Bowl. I think North Texas is ready to get it back.
“We’ve hosted every other major event. We’ve risen to be the entertainment and sports capital of the nation. We can handle the big events. We want another chance to show we can do it, because we can.”
Engle goes on to write that the issue is between the Cowboys and the NFL, and that Jerry Jones may need to sign off on his team playing a home game in London to give the Metroplex another shot as hosting a Super Bowl.
“We know the NFL has a process and a current queue in place for future sites, but we will remain active participants in presenting our stadium and our region as a future host,” Stephen Jones said. “We understand and embrace the fact that the NFL maximizes the interest in the Super Bowl by moving the game around to so many of our league’s great markets as that only serves to make the game more valuable and appealing and gives fans in places all over the country a taste of the Super Bowl experience.”
