The case for Deshaun Watson:

Watson flat-out lied about how much the contract factored into his decision, said he had no regrets and had some very awkward, cringe-worthy moments during his press conference.

The case for Will Smith:

Chris Rock tells jokes. Sometimes they’re bad, sometimes they make you cringe, but he’s one of the OG comedians on one of the biggest stages possible. As another OG and pop culture icon Smith has to show more restraint than that.

Smith’s blunder was in a setting where he was the favorite to receive the most prestigious award in his field after an amazing year of work. He put on the best performance of his legendary career in King Richard and had The Fresh Prince reunion at the end of 2020. Watson didn’t even play last season.

Smith also apologized after and most importantly, took home the hardware.

Actors are supposed to be a little bit crazy and Smith has certainly had his moments. Although Smith might’ve reached his highest point of crazy, it wasn’t completely off brand.

On the other hand, Watson seems to be in a serious branding identity crisis and he did the brand no favors at his presser. Hell, the wife of Jim Thome, who has a statue in downtown Cleveland, tried to cancel her Browns season tickets.

Who did worse for themself?: Deshaun, not even close.
