Millions of Americans are still waiting on the latest round of the $1,400 federal stimulus payments.
According to the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Administration, some who rely on Social Security income will receive their third COVID-19 stimulus checks next week, reports the New York Post.
Federal officials from those organizations confirmed they finally resolved a problem that forced around 30 million federal beneficiaries to wait for the $1,400 payments. Those Americans got payments from Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, or Railroad Retirement Board programs and didn’t file tax returns for the last two years or submit information to the IRS last year.
Officials from Social Security reported that the organization did not send the IRS the complete payment information for these beneficiaries until March 25. However, the tax agency sent around 127 million to Americans who information it did have.
By the end of this week, the IRS confirmed that it would finish looking at Social Security data and start sending stimulus checks for those who haven’t received it by the end of this week. The check will appear in beneficiaries’ bank accounts or on their Direct Express debit cards on April 7.
“Our teams immediately began processing data we received last week for federal benefit recipients,” IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a statement. “We know how important these payments are, and we are doing everything we can to make these payments as fast as possible to these important individuals.”
With this delay, not every recipient did not receive a stimulus check. The IRS said many people who were eligible for payments got them in the last several weeks if they filed taxes for 2019 or 2020 or filled out the IRS’ form for non-filers in 2020.
The IRS is reviewing data for Veterans Affairs benefits recipients and could distribute checks to those by mid-April.
