The U.S. Army identified a Fort Hood soldier who died while assisting others at the scene of a minor vehicle accident in Killeen, Texas.
Spc. Cole Jakob Aton, 22, was directing traffic around a minor vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 190/Interstate 14 in Killeen when a 2015 Chevrolet Cruz was unable to avoid him. The vehicle hit Aton who was declared dead at the scene.

Aton, of Science Hill, Kentucky, entered the Army in March 2018 as an Army Patriot Launching Station Enhanced Operator-Maintainer and has been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 44th Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade since August 2018.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident.
