Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has issued a declaration of emergency that includes a week-long, 8 pm curfew for all residents of Arizona. The curfew is set to begin on Sunday night.
Ducey took to Twitter on Sunday to say he made the decision at the request of local leaders around the state. "This gives law enforcement an additional tool to prevent the lawlessness we've seen here and in cities nationwide," he writes.
NOTICE:At the request of local leaders and in coordination with state and local law enforcement, I'm issuing a statewide Declaration of Emergency, with a curfew in place starting at 8:00 p.m. tonight and effective for one week. 1/

The announcement comes after many stores and restaurants in Scottsdale were damaged and looted due to nationwide protests calling for justice for George Floyd, a black man unlawfully killed at the hands of a white officer.
A dozen people were arrested during the Scottsdale looting.
The Phoenix area is coming up on their fourth consecutive night of protests in the downtown area. They have primarily been peaceful, but have evolved into violent and destructive gatherings. More than 100 people were arrested during Saturday's protests.
