KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Traffic Friday morning was lighter than usual in the Kansas City area, with dozens of school districts and other organizations calling off activities because of the predicted ice storm.
People who did make it out onto the roads saw ice accumulating on their vehicles. Dozens of minor accidents were blamed on the conditions.
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority pulled its buses off the roads around 9 a.m. with a plan to resume service at 2 p.m. when the forecast was for temperatures to rise above freezing.
As of 11:55 a.m. the airfield is open for all flights in & out. Conditions are improving so we hope we do not again have to close the airfield for safety today. Freezing rain, ice & slush make for slick conditions. We apologize for any inconvenience. Check https://t.co/SzyfR4maKb

Trash pickup for parts of Kansas City was delayed by the weather. A city spokesperson said trash collectors were working, but more cautiously than usual. Large item pickup scheduled for Friday in the Northland was rescheduled for Saturday.
