Kansas City reveals more plans for Chiefs victory parade

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kansas City could have snowfall when the Chiefs Kingdom Champions Parade begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The city sent out information Tuesday morning about the parade, the rally and ways to get downtown.


The parade starts at 6th Street and Grand Boulevard and heads south about two miles to Pershing Road. The route turns right and heads to Union Station, where the rally stage will be assembled. The rally is scheduled to begin at about 1:30 p.m., shortly after the parade ends. There will be vieing opportunities on the north lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

Because of the enormous crowd expected, the city is advising people to make a plan in advance in case they are separated from friends or family. Cell phone reception will be extremely limited, according to a city news release.

Several roads will be closed around downtown. People who do not use public transportation are encouraged to carpool.

The Kansas City Area Transit Authority is encouring people to use Park and Ride shuttles to get downtown. The shuttles will run from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, then resume at the end of the rally until the crowd clears. KCATA has set up several locations for people to park their cars and use buses.

Below is a list of street closures for Tuesday and Wednesday. 

  • Grand Boulevard from the Missouri River to Pershing Road, starting Tuesday at 2 p.m.
  • All east-west streets between Walnut and McGee from the Missouri River to Pershing Road, starting Tuesday 2 p.m. Some vehicle crossings will remain open until Wednesday 5 a.m.
  • Main Street from 20th Street to Pershing Road will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Main Street from Pershing Road to 31st Street will be closed to vehicles, but open to pedestrians.
  • Kessler Road from Pershing to the west side of the National WWI Museum and Memorial.
