KC's VCP looks to raise funds in #GivingTuesdayNow effort

Kansas City, MO - Typically held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, the idea of donating to charities on #GivingTuesday has been repurposed as Giving Tuesday Now, an effort to generate interest and funds for charities during the coronavirus pandemic.

The local, KC-based Veterans Community Project focuses on helping homeless veterans with temporary housing in their tiny village in south Kansas City, and connecting them with resources.

Co-founder and CEO Bryan Meyers says during the pandemic the organization has expanded their efforts beyond just working with homeless veterans.

VCP is working with the city of Kansas City to house those experiencing homelessness in hotel rooms if they're at risk, or have tested positive or have symptoms of COVID-19.

Meyers says today for Giving Tuesday Now, he hopes they can raise money to support their emergency financial assistance programs.

Good morning - today is the day we've been telling you about - #GivingTuesdayNow! We hope you'll hang out with us all day long. #TogetherWeGive #EndVeteranHomelessness #InThisTogether pic.twitter.com/MBxDhax4tS
