The money raised from the Stonewall Inn’s GoFundMe campaign will go directly towards monthly rent and insurance for the bar. LGBTQ+ organization and major donor to LGBTQ+ causes, The Gill Foundation made the $250,000 pledge to ensure that the Stonewall Inn has a future amidst the pressures of the pandemic.
The Stonewall Inn is a cornerstone for Pride celebrations globally, to lose the bar would mean losing a piece of LGBTQ+ history. On their GoFundMe page the bar shares, “Stonewall is the place the community gathers for celebrations, comes to grieve in times of tragedy, and rally to continue the fight for full global equality. The road to recovery from the COVID 19 pandemic will be long and we need to continue to safeguard this vital piece of living history for the LGBTQ community and the global human rights movement.”
