Their arrest comes days after two men were arrested on Staten Island for allegedly having more than $6,000 worth of illegal fireworks. Another ten people were also arrested on Staten Island this week for allegedly transporting dead alligators and possessing illegal fireworks.
The city has fielded thousands of complaints about fireworks this summer. Over 12,500 calls to 911 about fireworks were reported this month alone—about 12 times more than in the entire first half of 2019.
A 3-year-old boy was burned in the Bronx this weekend when an illegal firework flew into his family’s apartment and exploded.
