NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — More than 100,000 coronavirus tests were given across New York on Saturday, a new milestone for the state as the number of hospitalizations and intubations continued to decline to new lows.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that there were 100,022 tests statewide on Saturday.

“That’s the most tests that we have ever done in a single day,” Cuomo said during a morning conference call with reporters.

We reported over 100,000 tests yesterday. Highest number to date. Our infection rate remains under 1%.The takeaway? More tests does not equal more cases. And masks work.

The state’s infection rate has now been below 1 percent for 23 straight days, Cuomo said.

“That is really great news, especially when you consider what’s going on around the country and around the world,” he said.
