Protests have formed across the nation to demand justice for George Floyd, the African American man tragically killed while in police custody in Minneapolis.
The streets of west Charlotte were no different on Friday evening as protestors joined forced and let their voices be heard chanting “Black Lives Matter,” “Justice for George” and “No Justice, No Peace," hoping to evoke change for the black community.
Peaceful protesting began around 6 p.m. outside the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police headquarters.
Around 9 p.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police declared the protest an ‘unlawful assembly’ and began dispersing the crowd that had gathered.

“Police actually broke line and scooped him up and dragged behind the lines and arrested him,” reporter Ron Lee said.
There were reports of looting around 11 p.m. at the Food Lion on Beatties Ford Road.
There are reports of looting occurring at local businesses. CMPD is responding to ensure further damage and theft do not occur.

Mayor Vi Lyles urged protestors to show activism through nonviolent measures on Twitter.

The three other officers on the scene and involved in the murder were also fire. No charges have been filed against them yet.
