Meanwhile, as coronavirus cases surge across the country, many Starbucks employees wonder if their reopening measures have been premature. Some have even said they felt they were delivered an ultimatum.

Starbucks has said that if employees do not feel comfortable returning to work, they are able to use accrued sick time or take unpaid leave. "It felt like an ultimatum to me," a Phoenix barista said. "It felt like any way I go, I am screwed."
