KANSAS CITY - Police in Alexandria, Virginia, are investigating if possible wreckage found recently in the Potomac River could be tied to the deadly mid-air collision involving a Wichita-to-D.C. flight in late January.
Andrew Guervara says was walking his dog on the Mount Vernon Trail in Alexandria during the weekend when he made a discovery.
He spotted several items floating around in the water, appearing to be the back of a plane seat with a blue leather pocket, a tray table lock, and a blue headrest cushion.
Police told Guervara there hadn't been any recent reports of wreckage-sightings, but they'd send it to D.C. police for further investigation.
On January 29, an American Airlines jet and a Blackhawk helicopter flying too high collided mid-air, as the jet was approaching its landing at Reagan National Airport.
The wreckage tumbled into the icy Potomac, killing 67 people — 60 passengers and four crew -members on the American Eagle jetliner, and three people onboard the military helicopter.
It marked the deadliest U.S. air disaster in almost 25 years.
