After giving an incredible performance at Joe Biden's inauguration in January, the 22-year-old poet has become the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl.
Gorman delivered an original poem titled "Chorus of the Captains" in a taped segment, the New York Times reports. Gorman's poem was a nod to three people who were chosen as honorary captains to take part in the coin toss.
The three people - Trimaine Davis, Suzie Dorner, and James Martin - have all had major accomplishments in the past year. Davis is a Los Angeles teacher who helped his students get access to computers for remote learning. Dorner is a nurse in Tampa who works with COVID-19 patients in the ICU. Martin is a US Marine veteran who has worked to support people in his community.
Gorman's poem took place before the coin toss:
Today we honor our three captains
For their actions and impact in
A time of uncertainty and need.
They've taken the lead,
Exceeding all expectations and limitations,
Uplifting their communities and neighbors
As leaders, healers, and educators.
Since Gorman's stand-out appearance at last month's inauguration, her writing career has taken off, with her publisher announcing that they will print three million copies of her upcoming works.
Her works will include her debut poetry collection and picture book.
IMG Models has signed Gorman and will represent her in the realm of fashion and beauty.
