KANSAS CITY – A new survey on tipping in America shows those who are age 61 and up are the worst tippers.

The survey of over 2,000 Americans found that for Baby Boomers, the average tip is 16.4%, the lowest among all age groups. Millennials tip the most at 19.49%, and they are most likely to tip in nearly all categories, especially at restaurants, hotels and for personal services.

When broken down by state, Delaware tips the most at 21.25%, while California had the lowest at 16.4%. Both Kansas and Missouri residents tip over 19% on average.

The survey also asked people about the automatic tip prompts that have become commonplace in recent years. Over 80% of respondents don’t like them and 66% say the prompts actually discourage them from tipping.
