KANSAS CITY - A dignitary transfer and escort has been held for fallen Hays Police Officer Sergeant Scott Heimann.
At noon Tuesday, community-members showed their support for Sgt. Heimann, his family, and the Hays Police Department along the escort route, which began near downtown Wichita.
The procession and escort traveled north on I-135 to Salina, then west, heading for Hays.
The escort includes the Kansas law enforcement and larger first-responder community.
Sgt. Heimann was killed in the line of duty on Saturday while responding to a domestic disturbance in Hays; he leaves behind a wife and two children.
Sgt. Heimann is the fourth officer in the past three months killed in the line of duty in Kansas.
