KANSAS CITY – Jackson County legislator Manny Abarca was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Johnson County jail, across stateline, on a felony charge of domestic battery.

The charge comes from an alleged incident on May 29th in Johnson County.

Online records show Abarca was booked around 1:30 Wednesday afternoon. He bonded out within a couple of hours and released a statement.

“This is a matter of current litigation, so, unfortunately, there is not much I can say about this case at this time," Abarca said. "However, I will say that I love my children more than anything, and I will always put them first. I hope that this issue is decided quickly so that the entire story can be told.”

A missing person report for Abarca and his two-year-old son was filed on June 1st by Shawnee police. On Wednesday, authorities confirmed the child had been located and was safe.

Online court records show that a judge has issued a protection order against Abarca, and awarded custody of the boy to his wife.
