U.S. gas prices fall to 3-year low, cost in Kansas and Missouri among cheapest

KANSAS CITY - Gasoline prices have hit a three-year low, and it’s cheaper around the Kansas City area than most anywhere else in the U.S.

The latest data from Gas Buddy says the national average for gas has now fallen below $3.00 a gallon.

Meantime, prices around the KC Metro fell about a penny and a half this past week, to an average of 2.68 a gallon, although some spots are charging as little as $2.34.

As far as statewide averages go, AAA says Kansas and Missouri ranked 5th and 6th cheapest in the country respectively. Oklahoma is home to the lowest average gas prices in the nation.

The cost for diesel also dropped in the last week with the national average now $3.49 a gallon.
