KANSAS CITY - Across Kansas City and nationwide, we saw a steady decline in gas prices last year and it appears that the downward trend may continue for 2025.
The year 2024 marked the second year in a row of declining gasoline prices across the country, with monthly drops noted here in Kansas City as well. So, where are we heading this new year?
According to the price tracker GasBuddy - things are looking good, with an average price even lower than that in 2024.
GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan says “Overall 2025 likely to be more affordable when filling up your tank, gas prices will start rising in late winter early spring before peaking in April or May, prices then taper off and most Americans will see gas prices in low to mid $3.00 range for summer.”
Diesel prices are also predicted to decline more this year, averaging just below $3.50 a gallon.
Still, this is simply a forecast and several factors could push gas prices higher including storms, refinery maintenance, geo-politics and policy changes in Washington DC.
