KANSAS CITY - Kansas lawmakers have been successful in overriding Governor Laura Kelly's veto of the "Help Not Harm Act."
The Senate voted 31-9 on Tuesday, to override Kelly’s first veto of the new year. The Kansas House also voted Tuesday in favor of the veto override, 84 to 35.
The bill restricts the practice of gender transitioning for children, including restrictions of state funding, civil and professional liability for doctors who violate the ban, and adding the care to the definition of unprofessional conduct for physicians.
Senate Bill 63, coined by legislators as the "Help Not Harm" Act passed in the Kansas legislature in early February and was sent to the Governors desk.
On the 11th, Governor Laura Kelly struck the bill down with her veto power, but legislators disagreed.
