
KANSAS CITY – A vehicle hauling company is shutting down its operations near the Ford Assembly Plant in Claycomo, putting more than 400 jobs on the chopping block.
Jack Cooper Transport Company has informed the Missouri Department of Workforce Development that it is ending its operations at 1240 Claycomo Road.
The notification doesn’t detail the reason for the closure, but comes as the Ford Motor Company just ended its more than 40-year contract with the car hauling company.
The closure is expected to take effect on February 2nd, with 406 workers impacted. A majority the jobs are yard or driver positions.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Jack Cooper, founded in 1928, is based in Kansas City, Missouri; and Kennesaw, Georgia. It is owned by the Riggs family. Jack Cooper is a female-owned company certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.
It employs 2,500 people, around 1,400 of whom are union-represented.
