KC Metro man dies after hitting tree while skiing in Colorado

KANSAS CITY — A young Shawnee man died Tuesday morning after hitting a tree while skiing a trail at the Winter Park ski area in Colorado, officials said.

Andrew McDonald, 20, was identified as the victim by the local Fraser Winter Park Police Department.

The Winter Park Ski Patrol got a call at 10:52am that that a skier had collided with a tree on the Lupin trail, a blue/advanced trail.

Bystanders jumped in to help McDonald, performing CPR until ski patrol arrived. Ski patrol took over medical care and transported him to the medical center at the base of the resort, where he was pronounced dead.

Police confirmed McDonald was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
