Some call them "white rainbows," others say "ghost rainbows," but the Missouri Department of Conservation categorized this weather phenomena a "fogbow."
The above photo was captured by Mark Ramsey in a wetland area of north-central Missouri Saturday morning. as the rising sun reflected a rainbow off the moisture in the fog.
These "fogbows" are very similar to rainbows, with the combination of sunlight and moisture. You'll see both in the opposite direction of the sun, but rainbows are made from raindrops, while "fogbows" are caused by the small droplets inside a fog or cloud, according to EarthSky.com.
