The Patrick Mahomes-era Chiefs are plenty used to large comebacks, but this season has turned into something entirely different. Mahomes and this core haven't ever dealt with the challenge of turning an entire season around, which is the task that lies ahead of them after going 3-4, with some pretty dispiriting losses, through the first half of the season. Talking on 610's The Drive Monday afternoon, Mahomes talked at length about what it's like to face an entirely new challenge for the first time in a couple years, and how he's seen the team respond so far.
"I think guys are excited for the challenge," he said. "I know I am. The guys I talked to today at the facility are excited for the challenge of trying to do something great. We've obviously come back in games, but to be able to come back and turn the season around, that'd be a great story to tell. I'm excited for the challenge of it, I know guys are excited for it, and why not start with today? We're excited to get going, study the film, learn, and be better for it the rest of the season."
"It's what makes people great, and what makes teams great, is how you respond to adversity. People talk about adversity, but until you're in it, you never how someone's going to respond. I'm excited to see how guys respond. It's a battle all season long. We haven't lost our spirit yet."
