KANSAS CITY - Mayor Quinton Lucas joined Kansas City’s Morning News today, where he spoke about the death of a local sheriff’s deputy.
Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Deputy Elijah Ming was shot and killed Saturday while responding to a domestic incident.
Following the death, Mayor Lucas met with KC Police Chief Stacy Graves to discuss efforts to keep officers safe.

The last time a Kansas City police officer was killed in the line of duty was 1983. The suspect in Ming’s murder, Shawn Harris, is due to make his first court appearance this afternoon.
Lucas also spoke about the partial roof collapse at a Family Dollar store, leaving one dead and several others injured. Lucas says the city will be looking into any potential failures leading up to the Sunday incident.
