KANSAS CITY - Charges have been filed against a metro student accused of bringing a gun to school.

The 15-year-old at Shawnee Mission South High School has not been identified due to his age, but prosecutors say he's facing charges of firearm possession by a felon, juvenile in possession of a firearm and interference with a law enforcement officer.

He is due in court this afternoon.

The school went into lockdown Monday afternoon after school administrators were informed that a student was showing off a gun in his waistband. That information led the administration to lock down the school while resource officers located the student, restrained him and confiscated the gun.

The teenager had been released from juvenile detention just a week earlier for previous offenses, including being in possession of a gun at home while on probation.

With Monday's incident, no one was injured and no shots were fired.
