The Olympics are receiving criticism from several big names over its opening ceremony that critics say mocked the Last Supper with a recreation that featured performers in drag.

Among those to blast the Olympics included United States House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), who wrote on Twitter that it was insulting to Christians.

“Last night’s mockery of the Last Supper was shocking and insulting to Christian people around the world who watched the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games,” Johnson wrote in a post on X.

He went on to say that there is an ongoing “war on our faith and traditional values,” which he says “knows no bounds today.”

“But we know that truth and virtue will always prevail,” Johnson wrote, adding a quote from John 1:5 of the Bible: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

The opening ceremonies in Paris included a group of performers in a scene that resembled “The Last Supper” painting by da Vinci. Some of the performers were in drag during the scene.

The painting is a depiction of the final meal of Jesus Christ with his disciples the night before he was crucified.

Others criticizing the Olympics over the performance included television personality Piers Morgan, who asked if the Olympics would have “mocked any other religion like this” in a post on X.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) accused the Olympic Committee of trying to take down posts that are critical of the performance by copyrighting posts that used video from the ceremonies.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, who was at the front of a controversy earlier this year, also shared his thoughts in a post where he quoted Galatians 6:7-8.

“Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting,” Butker wrote in a post.

The Olympics have not commented on the criticism at this time.
