On Saturday, former President Donald Trump said he was willing to go to jail, but not for the crimes he is currently fighting in the legal system.
Trump shared in a post to his social media site, Truth Social, that he wanted to violate an expanded gag order placed on him in his upcoming hush money trial, saying he would be willing to serve jail time to do it.
“It is so bad what [the judge] is trying to get away with - How was he even chosen for this case??? I heard he fought like hell to get it, and all of the rest of them also! If this Partisan Hack wants to put me in the ‘clink’ for speaking the open and obvious TRUTH, I will gladly become a Modern Day Nelson Mandela – It will be my GREAT HONOR,” Trump wrote.
Trump shared his thoughts in three separate posts, lashing out at New York Judge Juan Merchan, who placed the gag order on the former president. Trump also claimed in his posts that Merchan’s daughter was biased against him.
“We have to Save our Country from these Political Operatives masquerading as Prosecutors and Judges, and I am willing to sacrifice my Freedom for that worthy cause,” Trump continued.
Merchan granted an expanded gag order last week after Trump continued to make threats against him and his daughter, posting both her name and photos even though she is not involved in the case.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg was behind the initial order so that jurors, witnesses, and investigators would be protected from the former president and his supporters.
Jasmine Harris, the Biden-Harris 2024 Director of Black Media, shared a statement with Rolling Stone, Blasting Trump for his remarks likening himself to Mandela.
“Imagine being so self-centered that you compare yourself to Jesus Christ and Nelson Mandela all within the span of little more than a week: that’s Donald Trump for you,” Harris said.
