Update: Lawrence Police released more information on a deadly shooting at a bar just east of the University of Kansas campus.
Officers were called to Jayhawk Cafe, better known as “The Hawk”, around 2 a.m. Saturday. They found two victims with gunshot wounds. An 18-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while the second victim, a 16-year-old boy, was taken to an area trauma center. He remains in critical condition.
Several witnesses told officers the suspects fled the scene. Officers flooded the surrounding area and soon found a group of people matching the suspects’ descriptions walking just blocks away.
They were taken in for questioning by detectives. Police charged one suspect with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated assault and a second suspect with felony murder and aggravated assault.
KCTV 5 in Kansas City, and a sister station of our partners at 12 News, identified the suspects as 18-year-old Daitron Lamont Daniels and 18-year-old Caiden Carl Ralph Clem. Both were booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility.
The victims' families have been notified but Lawrence Police have not released the identity of the man who died.
