KANSAS CITY - There is a confirmed case of measles from an out-of-state resident who visited the St. Louis Aquarium between 1-6 pm on Wednesday, April 30th. Additionally, the individual ate at a restaurant in St. Louis on the same day, however, details of this visit have been extremely limited.

Because measles is highly contagious, individuals who may have had exposures at the St. Louis Aquarium during the time the person visited and who are unvaccinated, or are immuno-compromised should consider post-exposure prophylaxis, according to the established public health recommendation to prevent measles infection and its complications.

The usual time interval for prophylaxis to be effective is within six days of exposure that will be Tuesday, May 6th.

If you have questions or need to be evaluated, should contact their health care provider or local public health agency.

Last month, Missouri reported its first measles case among the ongoing national outbreak. Kansas has 42 confirmed cases in the southwest part of the state.
