Kansas City, MO - Porch pirates are circling neighborhoods across the KC Metro using high-tech gadgetry looking to make a quick score.

These porch pirates are following delivery trucks, using package tracking software and even have people working on the inside helping them to steal your gifts, says Rich Kolko, retired FBI agent.

“A survey last year found 30% of packages were stolen by porch pirates, this year already, it’s at 40%,” said Kolko.

Kolko said there are several things you can do to protect your packages:
-Install a video recording doorbell system
-Sign up for delivery alerts
-Use an Amazon package locker

Amazon now offers to put the packages in your car trunk, garage or your front door if you grant them access to your locks

Kolko adds the biggest thing you can do is make sure you always have a recording of what’s going on outside your home and take in those packages if they are sitting outside as soon as possible.
