Kansas City, MO – A living history museum featuring a townscape and farmstead set on the edge of the Kansas Prairie in the 1920's has won a technology award for a 360º virtual tour they created during the pandemic.
Shawnee Town 1929 is a time capsule of what life was like in the 1920’s when Shawnee was first incorporated.
The site is popular for school field trips and scouting events, and hosts classes for gardening and learning how to craft cocktails, and even play the ukulele.
When the museum shut down during the pandemic, Museum director Charlie Pautler says they had to look at non-traditional ways to reach visitors.
Pautler says the 360º virtual tour takes a visitor through the farmstead, chicken house, various buildings, and also showcases artifacts, people and stories in the museum.
The Kansas Museum Association recently presented its 2021 technology award to Shawnee Town 1929 for the virtual tour.
