KANSAS CITY - More than three weeks after a tornado tore through St. Louis, a federal disaster declaration has been approved, opening the door for FEMA assistance.
A source tells KMOX seventy one million dollars in aid has been approved for the city after the May 16th tornado killed five and injured dozens of others.
St. Louis City Mayor Cara Spencer says it is absolutely impossible to have this type of help without FEMA. She says "we are so grateful for our governor for submitting the request our senators both Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt for having our back and pushing this forward and Congressman Bell. We know that it takes a concerted effort especially in the political climate that we are in to make this designation."
