KANSAS CITY - Some Missouri residents have been receiving scam calls threatening arrests they fail to pay a fine for missing jury duty.
According to court officials, how the scam works is a resident gets a call on their home, at work or on cell phone that they missed jury duty and they need to pay a fine right away (usually with a pre-paid debit card)
If the resident refuses to pay the fine, they threaten to have you arrested.
The St. Louis County Circuit Courts says the courts, law enforcement and other government agencies do not make phone calls about missing jury service and warrants and will never ask for payment or financial information over the phone.
The Circuits Courts say a legitimate jury summons would come in the mail.
If residents receive such phone calls, residents are asked to please contact local law enforcement.
If residents are unsure if a jury summons is valid, they can call the Jury office at 314-615-2669.
