Kansas City, MO – The Johnson County District Attorney's office has charged Jaylon Desean Elmore, 18, with attempted capital murder for the shooting on Friday inside Olathe East High School.
His bond is set at $1 million.
Two adults were wounded by gunfire - a school administrator and the school's resource officer. Elmore was also shot and wounded. The resource officer has been identified as Eric Clark, a veteran police officer who has been an SRO for seven years.
Reporting partner KMBC 9 News learned that Friday morning a school administrator pulled Elmore, a senior, out of class due to a tip that he had a gun in his backpack.
In the administrator's office the student allegedly refused to open his bag. The school resource officer was called in, and that's when shots were fired.
Audio captured the moments after the shooting, as the SRO called for help while applying a tourniquet to himself:
Online records show Elmore has a previous conviction for aggravated robbery.
