KANSAS CITY – The results are in from Tuesday’s municipal elections.
In Independence, voters said yes to $55 million in public transportation bonds, but similar bond issues funding public safety and Independence parks and recreation fell short.
In nearby Lee’s Summit, voters approved a $225 million bond issue funding updates to safety, improving facilities, and plans for the future.
In Kansas City, Missouri, voters approved the first bond issue for Kansas City Public Schools in nearly 60 years, with $474 million to be set aside for improvements to KCPS facilities.
Also in Kansas City, Missouri - voters passed a 20-year extension to a public safety sales tax with funds used to build a new city jail - which could cost anywhere from $150-$250 million, set to be built next to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center, which is going up just off I-70 and 40 Highway.
