KANSAS CITY - The future of passenger train-service on Amtrak in Wichita remains on hold, as lawmakers in Texas have approved a new budget -- but it does not contain funding for the Heartland Flyer, the train currently running from Ft. Worth, Texas, to Oklahoma City.
There was hope the Heartland Flyer could extend north into Kansas, with stops in Wichita and Newton.
However, Amtrak said it will end service for the Flyer by October, unless Texas first secures the necessary funding.
