Jamie Foxx got appropriately emotional during his first public appearance since scary medical issues in April of 2023.
Foxx spoke at the Critics Choice Association's Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements in Los Angeles recently, where he discussed his health during an acceptance speech, according to PEOPLE.
“I want to thank everybody. I've been through something. I've been through some things,” the actor said. “It's crazy, I couldn't do that six months ago. I couldn't actually walk too..."
Foxx said things are different for him now in life and he cherishes “every single moment.”
“I wouldn't wish what I went through on my worst enemy, because it's tough when you almost... When it's almost over, when you see the tunnel,” he said.
The actor, who received an award for his performance in “The Burial,” took a joking turn in his speech as he said he saw the tunnel, but didn’t see the light.
Foxx also thanked his family members who helped him through the tumultuous time.
“My sister and my daughter were so great at not letting anybody know anything that happened," he said. “You need somebody like that in your corner."
Foxx ended his acceptance on a thankful note: “I want to say six months ago I couldn't fathom that this could happen or that I would be here, but as I walk up here to this microphone and get this Vanguard Award, all I can say is 'Lord, have mercy, Jesus.' ”
