Houston Texans QB CJ Stroud took the league by storm last season as a rookie, having one of the best seasons we have ever seen for a new signal-caller. He threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and only five interceptions in 2023, and quickly established himself as one of the best passers in the NFL.
The public is certainly aware of how good he is, and generally, they are going to back him quite a lot this season on the spread and the moneyline. However, not many people are talking about a pretty insane streak that he is on, especially for a quarterback as young as he is.
Stroud is currently on a streak of eight straight regular-season games without throwing an interception. He hasn’t thrown a pick since November 19, 2023, against the Arizona Cardinals of all teams. He actually threw almost all of his 2023 interceptions in that one game, with three of them of his five total for the year. The Texans still ended up winning that game 21-16, so it didn’t cost them, and Stroud has been about as pinpoint accurate as any QB could be since then.
Now, he will put his current streak on the line in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, and Houston is just a small -2.5 favorite on the road.
Right now at BetMGM, Stroud is -110 to the under on throwing an interception, and -120 to the over. I find that to be extremely curious considering he hasn’t thrown one since last November. You would imagine most of the public is going to be backing him and the Texans in this game with all the hype that Houston has built up over the off-season, and that would be correct, with 78% of tickets on them.
I was able to scoop up a +3 on Indy earlier last week, but those have all quickly dissipated with the wiseguys snatching that up right away. The fact that the public will be on Houston, and with this prop being juiced to the over when he hasn’t thrown a pick in eight straight games, makes me think that we could see an upset here. If anything, I would probably take the over if I was going to bet this at all.
